As soon as I take office, I’ll introduce a resolution where California declares that it will be independent from the United States in the event Trump is re-elected.
My hope is that America will get the wake up call that if we value this union, and we want it to last, Americans cannot betray our duty of decency to each other by choosing a demented, racist, dangerous sociopath to lead us.
Republicans will have to ask themselves “Do we want to be the party that lost California?”
I believe they will choose a different nominee for 2020, if I can get to the State Senate in this election and make the case for California taking this ultimate stand against Trump.
Trump losing the primary would be an important historical event. It would be the first time an incumbent President was denied his party's nomination since 1884. It would show the world that America knows better. It would spare us all the trauma of another Trump general election campaign. That is no small thing. He is a devastating infection in our culture and collective consciousness.
Instead of taking more wounds, our nation’s soul can begin to heal.
I will be a bold leader in the California Senate and I will make this nightmare end.
What if the Resolution passes but Trump is still re-elected?
We know America can be better than this, but if they choose that other path, we owe it to ourselves to be better on our own.
California sends nearly $400 billion/year to the federal government. To put that in perspective, every 5 years, we give the give federal government the value of Google, Apple, and Facebook combined.
And for this, we have to accept their ICE and DEA raids. We have to accept limitations on gun control. We have to let the federal government own 45% of California’s land. We have to give power to people like Mitch McConnell and Donald Trump, which, given their positions on climate change and the environment, is an existential threat!
The election of Trump made it clear, that this relationship we are in has become an abusive one.
We don’t have to give up our better destiny to find out how much worse it can get. And we definitely don’t have to be that victim who is brainwashed into believing they can’t leave an abusive relationship.
It’s a fair choice to give the rest of the nation:
Do you want Trump or do you want California?
